Disposition to God's Will

St Elizabeth Ann Seton said, "the first end I propose in our daily work is to do the will of God; secondly, to do it in the manner he wills it; thirdly, to do it because he wills it." The catechism of the Catholic Church teaches us that ultimately, we are created to do this Will, because it is for Him and Him alone that we are made and thus, all our actions should find its end in Him or better put in his Will.

This, nevertheless, is not always the case. There are people who has made it their business to go against this very fundamental purpose of their being - doing the will of God - and has made it their occupation to do their will. Failing to understand that their fulfillment will only spring from that very source of their being.

More so, on the other hand are those who, perhaps, take themselves special because they believe they are doing this Will of the master, perhaps, by observing some external regulations. They believe that they deserve special privileges from the Divine Being because they are not like 'that tax collector'. They fail to realize that they only perform their duty. Such persons likely would break down should any adversity come their way, since they believe God owes them some special obligation because they are among the few that do his Will. This goes a long way to contradict the very nature of our service to God.

If we are made for God and to fulfil His Will. How, then, can one boast to God or his fellow men that he is doing his duty. If the chair has mouth will it boast to the owner for allowing him to sit on it or will it demand special privileges from him. It will know that it is left at the discretion of the owner to do with it as he wills. Such should be our relationship with God, He owns us and thus, we should count it a special privilege to do His Will. Humility which is Truth; truth about ourselves, requires this of us.

It is obviously the case that God rewards with everlasting glory, those who have kept to this duty. This, too, is out of his benevolence because He can do with us as he wills. "So when you have done all you have been told to do, say, we are merely servants, we have done no more than our duty" (Luke 17:10)
