HAIL MARY, PUREST AMONGST THE PURE.

Hail Mary, purest amongst the pure, fairest amongst the fair

Why would the messenger of the Most high not proclaim the “Ave” to you, O Mary Most poor in Spirit?

When Jesus wanted to begin his ministry, he started by first proclaiming the words

“Blessed are the poor in Spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of God. Is it not evident that in you is found the epitome of “Poverty of Spirit”?

Poverty denotes a certain lack of security, a certain dependence on a higher or more secure source for sustenance. Who could compete with you, O Mary most poor, on the virtue of total dependence and trust in Divine providence? The readiness of the fiat testifies to this fact. You readily submitted when the future possible outcome, humanly speaking, is nothing but disaster and shame.

Are we to consider this as a matter of coincidence, what, then, are we to say about the confidence at Cana, the ungrudging acceptance of the disciple at the foot of the Cross, the trustful pondering of all the seeming terrible prophecies? These are sign that show how poor in Spirit you are, O Mary, most poor.

How will you not be full of grace oh Mother most pure and chaste, given that you are immaculately conceived you struggled through all the human weaknesses, temptations and trials. Yet you remained without sin. Indeed mother, you are worthy of your position as the most exalted of all creatures.

You yourself made it clear to us why you are blessed amongst women. “The Almighty has looked on the lowliness of his handmaid, henceforth all generations will call me blessed.

Blessed Holy Mother of God, in this exile, we implore you. Look on the confidence and helplessness of the brothers and sisters of Jesus, your Children. Deliver our strives weaknesses and aspirations to Your Lord, Son and Spouse.

How can we not trust in your most powerful intercession, Blessed refuge of sinners whose mercy escapes no one? The Cana incident makes it evident, the continuous care that motivated your various apparitions assures us, the passion that drives you to seek the will of God confirms it.

Nor are we unaware of the power of your intercession. For which good child will deny his Mother a favor. How, then, will God your Son say no to you? Even, both scripture and history prove that the prayer of a righteous man is pleasing in the eyes of God. Who, then, amongst us creatures both in heaven and earth can claim more righteousness than thee? O Virgin-Mother of God.

Pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, Amen.

This reflection is to remind us of the two-fold duty of Mary to us the siblings of Jesus, her Children. The shinning example of Mary’s life for our meditation and imitation, and the great power of Mary’s assured intercession.

O MARY, MOST POOR IN SPIRIT – PRAY FOR US.
