SOLEMNITY OF MARY THE HOLY MOTHER OF GOD. 

When the fullness of time had come (according to Saint Paul's letter to the Galatians 4: 4-7), "God sent his son born of a woman to... redeem us" from slavery to sin so that we may gain sonship with him, in order that we can call God 'ABBA' Father. While on the cross completing the mission for which he was born, he said to the disciple he loved "Behold thy mother". He shared not just his father with us but also his mother, so that like him we will be Children of God and of Mary. 

 In today's Gospel, Mary pondered everything in her heart and when the time of presentation came, she ensured that her child was given  the name pronounced by God's angel even before His conception. God trusted this woman with His only begotten son ( and his earthly ministry) and faithfully, she bore this responsibility till her death and assumption into heaven where she continues to be the mother of God and of all God's children. If God could trust her with his son when she was still a frail human, how much more should we trust her with the proceedings of the New year now that she is Queen of heaven and earth? Through her intercession we are assured of God's immense blessings as seen in today's first reading. Do well to commend your new year to the careful Hands of the Mother of God.

 PRAYER:  Mary, mother of God and mine, I love you; please pray for and with me today, throughout the year and forever. Amen.
